How to Direct Wire Single-Ended LED Tube Lights

Single-ended LED tubes are only compatible with fixtures that are wired for rapid start ballasts (wired in series). Non-shunted lampholders are used with rapid start ballasts and single-ended LED tubes. Shunted lampholders can not be used. Find Single-Ended LED Tube Lights

Caution! Direct wiring will cause the lampholders to be energized with line voltage when the light switch is turned on. Always turn the power off to the light fixture when installing or replacing tubes in direct wired fixtures.

Cut the wires from the ballast. Remove the ballast from the fixture (or leave it in place). Using orange wire connectors for line and neutral, orange or blue wire connector to cap the yellow wires. Trim wires to about 1/2”. Similar sized wire connectors can be used.

One side of the non-shunted lampholder is connected to line, the other side connected to neutral. In this example the left side of the lampholders is connected to line.

Connect a single wire from the one side of all the lampholders to line.

Connect a single wire from the other side of all the lampholders to neutral.

A fixture modification label should be supplied with the tube. To indicate which end is powered, place the label on the ballast cover nearest the powered end.
